19 October 1998 MAKING HEADWAY
Two years after the signing of the Lease Agreement,
the Golf course was 84.69% completed, while the initial Country
Homes were 15.5% completed.
One month later, the initial nine holes at the golf
course were completed in time for playability tests for the public,
which started on 28 November and was held every weekend thereafter.
A temporary clubhouse was also erected. The Country Homes model
unit (G3) was also completed by November 1998. Meanwhile, excavation
work on the permanent golf clubhouse also commenced, although actual
construction started only on June 1999.
Demolition work on the Main Club started on January
1999. Demolition of other structures such as Cottages 101 to 105,
107 to 110, the Telecomm Bldg., and sidings of the old Admin. Bldg.,
followed shortly. Work also started on the improvement of the Baguio
Country Club gate.
The golf course officially opened on 27 March 1999,
under the management of the CJH Golf Club, Inc. By April 1999, Inbound
Pacific Merchandising Inc. started operating the CJH commissary,
temporarily located at the old Administration Building.
All employees, contractors and locators underwent
an initial IEC on the Integrated Waste Management Program and Forest
& Watershed Management Plan from June 2 to 3. This was followed
by a one-day seminar on Ecological Waste Management from June 21
to 25.
By June 1999, CJH DevCo awarded to Sundt JC the
construction of an additional 11 country homes. Meanwhile, nursery
plants, originally located at the old tennis courts, were given
a temporary home at the Scout Valley as plans were being finalized
for the convention hotel to rise at the site across the mermaid
park.
By July, the BCC gate was completed and made serviceable.
Work on the model log home, as well as the Sewage Treatment Plant
(STP) to service the country homes and golf clubhouse also started.
On the same month, a Solid Waste Management Committee was created
to set policies to govern all entities located within the zone with
respect to solid waste management and disposal.
CJH DevCo also started coordinating with NRDC and
DENR for the reforestation program covering replacement saplings
for trees affected, following provisions of the Tree Felling permits
issued for the project.
On August, the first of a series of walkathons to
raise funds for the rehabilitation of the Balili river was held
at the Scout Hill and participated in by employees and their children.
With the onset of the rainy season on September,
tree planting activities again dominated the scene. To date, a total
of 18,000 trees have been planted.
On the same month, Y2K Philippine Commission was
invited to conduct an orientation workshop for all CJH entities
and personnel in preparation for the new millennium.
Water quality tests were also undertaken by the
Multipartite Monitoring Team, led by DENR experts. The results conform
with the baseline data set in the company's Environmental Impact
Statement.
